Farmers now occupy and farm more than half of France’s surface area, so it’s surprising that they represent no more than 0.70% of the population. However, in a few years’ time, one in three farmers will reach retirement age. This means that generational renewal is, and will continue to be, a major challenge. There will be places up for grabs!
Today, we present 4 of the many reasons to set up in farming.
1 – Working close to nature and living things.
There are very few activities that will offer you such a pleasant and varied working environment as agriculture.
This is your chance to work directly with nature, the land and the pastures. You’ll be helping to shape our rural landscapes and maintain biodiversity.
2 – Autonomy is yours!
Farming gives you complete autonomy. It’s up to you to manage your farm and your schedule. It’s up to you to choose the people who will support you according to your needs: the management centre for your accounts, the bank for your finances, suppliers for your supplies (raw materials and seeds, for example), and any employees you may have.
3 – Versatility.
Do you like new technologies? You’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of farming and cultivation technologies: drones, robots, etc.
Don’t like new technologies? No problem, you can just as easily find your place in agriculture. One thing’s for sure: you’ll never get bored in agriculture.
Over the course of their career, farmers are often also mechanics, craftsmen, bricklayers, carpenters, shopkeepers, veterinary surgeons, negotiators, but above all entrepreneurs.
4 – Feeding the population.
One farmer in France feeds more than 6,000 people! That’s something to be proud of. The French are increasingly fond of local, regional, quality products. Direct sales are growing fast.
Whether you’re a meat-lover, vegetarian or vegan: there’s a farmer behind what’s on your plate.
